You’re never too old to fangirl

Last night, I bought tickets to a hockey game. This morning I actually said, “I saw that on Sportscenter while I was at the gym.” Who even am I?

It all started with hockey romances. And now I just like hockey for itself. It’s cool finding new things to be excited about at my age. Sometimes the voices in my head judge me and tell me that whatever I’m so excited about has been around forever and it’s lame to start liking it now. No one cares. Then I tell them to fuck off. Let people like things, voices in my head!

It’s cool finding new things to be excited about at my age. Sometimes the voices in my head judge me and tell me that whatever I’m so excited about has been around forever and it’s lame to start liking it now. And I am, once again, Late to the Party.

So I tell the voices to fuck off. Let people like things, voices in my head!  I will never be the person who liked X before it was cool. I’m not an early adopter.

So what? Can you imagine going through life only liking the things you like now? Only knowing what you know about right now? How dull. My only regrets are that I didn’t try more things when I was younger; that I let fear of embarrassment get in my way. My head voices have a LOT to answer for. Being embarrassed seemed like the worst thing in the world once upon a time. Now it’s a daily occurrence and I can’t care anymore.

So I discovered I liked hockey just in time for the season to be basically over. Oh well. Wait until I get started on that stunt car driver book percolating in the back of my mind. Then I can buy all the Fast & Furious movies and deduct them from my taxes. Research!

What new thing have you discovered a passion for lately?
